Lesson 9 of 10. You may study lessons in any order. Complete and mark all ten before the final quiz.
Your goal
Complete a download on the intended device, perform a brief offline test, reconnect, and verify a recorded passage or study marker on return.
Before starting
Use your own authorized practice account or a harmless practice document. Identify the active application and the focused control before each command. Keep these instructions in a separate window. Never include passwords or private messages in your learning notes.
Follow the product and device version named in each procedure. A plus sign means hold the modifier while pressing the final key; “then” means release before continuing. These procedures are documentation-based and have not been tested here with the actual assistive software or signed-in reading accounts.
Check offline readiness and recover a missing passage
Start here: The installed reading app on the exact device you will use away from the internet. Browser access alone is not proof of offline readiness.
Step-by-step instructions
- While connected, select the intended book and complete the app’s download procedure. Check the status until it indicates completion; a title appearing on a shelf is not sufficient.
- Open the downloaded book and read a short passage. Note its title, edition, chapter, and page or section.
- At a convenient time when disconnecting will not interrupt another task, temporarily disconnect that device and test the same book. Confirm that you can start playback and navigate to a second passage.
- Reconnect afterward. If offline playback failed, check storage, download status, and app-specific help while connected. Do not erase other people’s files to free space.
- When continuing elsewhere, open the same account and book edition, then compare the current passage with your written location. Use navigation or a bookmark to recover if needed.
- Before removing downloads or reinstalling an app, check whether important notes and progress are synchronized or recorded elsewhere.
Check your result
You know whether this book on this device works offline and have a way to regain your place.
If something goes wrong
Report the device, app/version, title, connection state, exact message, and last successful action. Keep passwords and private account information out of support screenshots.
Try it yourself
Demonstrate offline reading for one downloaded title, reconnect, and return to your recorded passage.
Documentation: Official reading-app guidance.
Prepare for reading away from the internet
What you will learn: Check that the book is actually downloaded.
Exactly how to do it
- While online in a supported app, add the title to the bookshelf and complete its download.
- Open it once before leaving your connection.
- At a convenient time, test a short offline reading session. Reconnect afterward.
What should happen: You know whether that device and book are ready for offline use.
If that does not happen: Adding a title is not the same as completing its download. Check the app and download state; do not assume the web reader behaves like an installed app.
Practice: Prepare one book for a trip. Record the device, title, and whether your offline test succeeded.

Your practice assignment
Complete a download on the intended device, perform a brief offline test, reconnect, and verify a recorded passage or study marker on return.
Check your work before marking complete
- Identify the starting application, account, device, or keyboard layout used for this task.
- Demonstrate each part of the goal above and describe the result after each action.
- Return to the saved item, passage, or starting setting when the task calls for it.
- Explain one problem you encountered or could encounter and the recovery step you would use.
- Record whether you worked independently, needed a prompt, or used the written alternative.
If the application, membership, or device is unavailable: complete a written walkthrough of this exact assignment. Include the starting context, ordered actions, expected results, and one recovery step. Label it “written alternative — not tested on the device.” The completion record is self-reported, not an instructor-verified skills assessment.
