First-time keyboard guide
Use this short routine before following the Victor Reader Stream 3 Manual procedures. It explains exactly how the keyboard directions in this manual work.
Press a single key
- Find the named key without pressing it if possible.
- Press and release the key one time. Do not hold it unless the step specifically says to hold it.
- Stop and listen to the full screen-reader announcement before pressing another key.
Press a keyboard combination
- When a command contains a plus sign, such as Ctrl+S, hold down the first key.
- While continuing to hold the first key, press and release the final key once.
- Release the first key. The plus sign is not a key and should not be pressed.
- Listen for the expected result described in the procedure. If nothing changes, verify that the correct application or webpage has focus and try the command once more.
Press a sequence of keys
- When keys are separated by commas or the word “then,” press and release them in order instead of holding them together.
- After each key, listen for a menu, tab, control, or new screen before continuing.
- If the announcement does not match the step, press Escape once to close the current menu or dialog and restart that procedure.
Know which navigation key to try
- Tab and Shift+Tab: move forward and backward among buttons, links, fields, and other controls.
- Arrow keys: move inside menus, lists, groups of choices, text, and many screen-reader reading views.
- Enter: opens the selected item or activates the focused command.
- Space: activates many buttons and checks or clears checkboxes. In a text field, Space types a space.
- Escape: cancels or closes the current menu, list, or dialog without intentionally accepting a change.
Verify before moving on
- Listen for the window, page, or application name so you know where focus is.
- Perform only one numbered step.
- Compare what the screen reader announces with the “What should happen” information in the procedure.
- If the result is wrong, stop. Use the procedure’s recovery directions, Escape to cancel, or Ctrl+Z to undo when that command is supported.
- Continue only after you can identify the result. Save completed work with Ctrl+S whenever the application supports saving.
First complete independent workflow
This rehearsal joins existing procedures into one uninterrupted session without repeating their directions. Follow the linked procedure when a step names it, then return here for the next verification.
Safety check: Confirm the exact device model, firmware or software version, active connection, battery level, and storage location before using a command.
- Open Victor Reader Stream 3 Manual and wait until its name, starting screen, or connected-device status is announced.
- Choose a fictional, public, disposable, or instructor-provided practice item. Do not use private client, student, medical, financial, or account-recovery information.
- Open 2.1 Front Face. Read its “What you will learn,” “Before you begin,” keyboard-command, and expected-result information before pressing anything.
- Complete that procedure one numbered action at a time. After each key, stop and identify what changed before continuing.
- State the result aloud or record it in a practice note. If it differs from “What should happen,” use that procedure’s recovery directions before advancing.
- Continue directly to 2.2 Left Side without closing the application or device session. First confirm that focus, account, file, book, conversation, or project context is still correct.
- Complete the second procedure and verify the resulting name, state, location, permission, value, or content. Do not rely only on a success sound.
- Save or synchronize when the product supports it. Wait for the completed state before disconnecting a device, closing a browser, or switching accounts.
- Continue to 2.3 Right, Top, Bottom, and Back. Use the exact command listed there; if the command varies by model or version, use Keyboard Help, the product’s shortcut list, or the linked official reference instead of guessing.
- Introduce one harmless recoverable error, such as opening the wrong menu or moving focus away. Press Escape once, identify the active window or device area, and return to the correct step.
- Review the finished practice item from its beginning. Confirm its title or filename, structure, content, destination, sharing state, and saved or synchronized status as applicable.
- Close and reopen the item or return to it from the product’s main screen. The workflow is complete only when you can locate it and verify the same result independently.
Success standard: Complete all three linked tasks, explain the commands used, recover from the practice error, and locate the finished result without another person directing the next key.
Purpose: This manual teaches the Victor Reader Stream 3 from the beginning. It assumes no prior experience with the device and gives physical orientation, exact key sequences, expected speech feedback, troubleshooting, practice, and independent-use checklists.
Reference: This guide is based on HumanWare's current Stream 3 support materials and User Guide version 1.6, with NLS/BARD information cross-checked against current NLS resources.
Terminology: This manual calls the # key Confirm and the * key Cancel, matching the device's spoken/manual terminology.
How to Use This Manual
Keep the Stream upright with the numeric keypad facing you and the speaker holes on the bottom edge.
Learn the physical layout before trying online services.
Use Key Describer mode when you forget a key.
Use key 1 to move among bookshelves and keys 4/6 to move among books on a bookshelf.
Use keys 2/8 to choose a navigation level and keys 4/6 to move backward/forward at that level.
Press Play/Stop to begin or pause reading.
Press key 5 for Where am I? information.
Press key 0 for device/book information.
Press and hold key 1 to open the built-in User Guide.
Do not enter BARD or Bookshare credentials when another person can hear them unless you are comfortable with that privacy risk.
Part 1 - What the Victor Reader Stream 3 Is
The Victor Reader Stream 3 is a pocket-size talking-book and media player from HumanWare. It supports DAISY and NLS digital talking books, electronic text, braille files, music, podcasts, online book services, Internet radio, recording, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an SD card, and internal storage.
Offline bookcase: books and files stored in internal memory or on the SD card.
Online bookcase: Wi-Fi services such as NLS BARD, Bookshare, podcasts, radio, and other configured services.
Bookshelf: one category of content inside a bookcase.
Navigation level: chapter, heading, page, time jump, paragraph, line, word, character, or another structure supported by the current book.
Confirm: the # key. Cancel: the * key.
Part 2 - Physical Orientation
2.1 Front Face
Hold the Stream upright with the keypad facing you.
At the very top of the front face are three special keys. Left: square Go To key. Center: round Online key. Right: diamond-shaped Bookmark key.
Just above the Go To key is a tiny hole for the built-in mono microphone.
Below those three keys is a telephone-style 12-key numeric pad. Key 5 has two raised dots. Keys 2, 4, 6, and 8 have tactile raised edges.
Below the numeric pad are four playback keys. Rewind is bottom-left and has a raised edge. Fast Forward is bottom-right and has a raised edge. Play/Stop is centered between them. Sleep is directly above Play/Stop.
2.2 Left Side
Near the top-left side is the Power/Toggle button.
Directly below Power is the status LED.
Below the LED is a rocker-style Up/Down control. It changes whichever setting Power/Toggle has selected: volume, speed, tone, or pitch.
At the bottom-left side is a stereo microphone/line-in jack.
2.3 Right, Top, Bottom, and Back
Right side near the top: Record button, identified by a raised red circle.
Top edge: SD-card slot under a small silicone cover.
Bottom edge center: USB-C port for charging and computer connection.
Bottom edge left of USB-C: headphone/external-speaker jack.
Bottom edge right of USB-C: four small holes for the built-in speaker.
Back: model and serial-number label surrounded by a rubber outline.
Orientation practice: Without powering on the device, locate Go To, Online, Bookmark, 5, Play/Stop, Sleep, Power, Up/Down, Record, SD slot, USB-C, headphones, and speaker.
Part 3 - Charging, Power, and Battery
3.1 Charge the Stream
What you will learn: Connect power safely.
Before you begin: Use the supplied USB-C cable and a suitable USB power adapter.
Exactly how to do it
Locate the USB-C port at the bottom center.
Insert the USB-C plug without forcing it.
Connect the other end to the power adapter.
Plug the adapter into AC power.
Leave the Stream charging. A full AC charge can take up to about three hours.
What should happen: When the player is off and charging, the LED blinks. When it is on while charging, the LED stays steady.
If that does not happen: If it does not charge, try the supplied adapter/cable and another outlet. Computer USB charging can be slower or insufficient.
Practice: Charge the device and check battery status.
3.2 Turn On or Off
What you will learn: Power the device intentionally.
Before you begin: The Stream has some battery charge.
Exactly how to do it
Locate Power on the upper-left side.
Press and hold it until the Stream starts.
Wait for spoken startup feedback.
To power off, press and hold Power again until shutdown begins.
What should happen: The Stream starts or shuts down with speech feedback.
If that does not happen: If the unit is unresponsive, connect AC power and retry. If necessary use the documented power-button reset procedure.
Practice: Turn the Stream on, identify the active bookshelf, then shut it down.
Battery status: Press and hold Confirm (#), or press Info (0), to hear battery/charging status.
Part 4 - Key Describer Mode
4.1 Learn Keys Safely
What you will learn: Have the Stream announce keys without carrying out normal actions.
Before you begin: The Stream is on.
Exactly how to do it
Press and hold Info (0) to enter Key Describer mode.
Press any front key.
Listen to its name/function.
Try the side controls and playback keys.
Press and hold Info (0) again to exit.
What should happen: Keys are described instead of performing their ordinary command.
If that does not happen: If the Stream performs commands, Key Describer mode was not entered; retry the long press.
Practice: Identify every key without looking at a printed guide.
Part 5 - The Bookshelf System

5.1 Choose a Bookshelf and Book
What you will learn: Find content by category.
Before you begin: The Stream contains at least one book/file.
Exactly how to do it
Press 1.
Listen to the bookshelf name.
Press 1 repeatedly until the desired bookshelf is announced.
Press 4 or 6 to move backward/forward through books.
Listen to each title.
Press Play/Stop on the desired book.
What should happen: The selected book begins where you last stopped, when resume information is available.
If that does not happen: If a bookshelf says zero books, choose another shelf or add content.
Practice: Locate three different shelves and one title on each.
5.2 Switch Online and Offline
What you will learn: Move between local and internet content.
Before you begin: Wi-Fi may be needed for online services.
Exactly how to do it
Tap the round Online key above number 2.
Listen for Online or Offline bookcase.
Press 1 to hear the first bookshelf in that bookcase.
Tap Online again to return.
What should happen: The bookcase changes while the same basic bookshelf navigation model remains.
If that does not happen: If online services do not work, Wi-Fi may be off or Airplane Mode may be on.
Practice: Switch bookcases three times and identify each.
Part 6 - Basic Playback

6.1 Read an Audio Book
What you will learn: Start, pause, and review audio.
Before you begin: Select an audio book.
Exactly how to do it
Press Play/Stop.
Listen for at least 20 seconds.
Press Play/Stop to pause.
Short-press Rewind.
Press Play/Stop.
Short-press Fast Forward.
Pause again.
What should happen: Playback starts/stops and short presses move about five seconds in audio content.
If that does not happen: In text content, short Rewind/Fast Forward can move by line and held presses use percentage jumps instead of audio time.
Practice: Practice until you can use all four playback controls by touch.
Part 7 - Navigation by Heading, Page, Time, and Text
7.1 Choose a Navigation Level
What you will learn: Move by the structure supported by the current book.
Before you begin: Open a structured DAISY or text book.
Exactly how to do it
Press 2 or 8.
Listen to the current navigation level.
Continue pressing 2/8 until you hear the level you want, such as heading, page, time jump, paragraph, line, word, or character.
Press 4 to move backward at that level.
Press 6 to move forward.
What should happen: The Stream moves according to the selected level.
If that does not happen: Not every book contains every navigation level. If 'page' or a heading level is absent, the book may not include it.
Practice: Navigate by at least three different levels.
Text navigation: Text-to-speech books can expose paragraph, sentence, word, and character navigation. HTML/XML/DOCX/EPUB content may also expose headings.
Part 8 - Go To Commands
8.1 Go Directly to a Page or Heading
What you will learn: Jump instead of stepping repeatedly.
Before you begin: Use a book that contains the requested structure.
Exactly how to do it
Press the square Go To key above number 1.
Listen to the type of destination requested.
Enter the number with the numeric keypad.
Press Confirm (#).
What should happen: The Stream moves to that page/heading/destination.
If that does not happen: If the number does not exist, the Stream announces an error or remains near the current position.
Practice: Go to two valid pages or headings.
Go To can also support time, percentage, beginning/end, book number, and online-service actions depending on context.
While on a bookshelf, Go To can be used to enter a relative book number, then Confirm.
Part 9 - Where Am I and Info
9.1 Ask Where Am I?
What you will learn: Hear current reading position without changing it.
Before you begin: A book is open.
Exactly how to do it
Press 5.
Listen to title and current position information.
Press and hold 5 when you want additional device/book identification information such as serial/model information.
What should happen: The Stream reports context without moving your place.
If that does not happen: Information varies by book type.
Practice: Use Where Am I? in an audio book and a text book.
9.2 Hear General Information
What you will learn: Review battery, storage, book, and device information.
Before you begin: The Stream is on.
Exactly how to do it
Press 0.
Use 4 and 6 if multiple information items are available.
Listen for battery, storage, title, position, or device information.
Press Cancel (*) to leave if needed.
What should happen: You can review status without opening Settings.
If that does not happen: Exact items vary with current content and device state.
Practice: Find battery status and one storage/device item.
Part 10 - Sleep Timer and Clock
10.1 Set a Sleep Timer
What you will learn: Have the Stream stop after a chosen interval.
Before you begin: A book is playing or paused.
Exactly how to do it
Press Sleep once.
Listen to the announced timer.
Press Sleep repeatedly to cycle available timer values.
Stop on the desired time.
To cancel, cycle until Sleep off is announced.
What should happen: The player will stop/shut down according to the configured sleep behavior.
If that does not happen: Available values can be customized in Settings; common choices include 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes.
Practice: Set 15 minutes and then turn Sleep off.
Time/date: Press and hold Sleep to hear the current time and date.
Part 11 - Bookmarks
11.1 Insert and Return to a Bookmark
What you will learn: Mark a location for later.
Before you begin: Open a book.
Exactly how to do it
Move to the location.
Press Bookmark.
Follow the spoken prompt to insert a bookmark and confirm if requested.
Continue reading elsewhere.
Use the bookmark navigation options to return to the saved marker.
What should happen: The Stream stores the bookmark for the book.
If that does not happen: Bookmark behavior can vary by content type. Audio, highlight, and numbered bookmarks are also supported.
Practice: Create and return to two bookmarks.
Text-entry role: The diamond Bookmark key also changes lowercase/uppercase/numeric text-entry modes when typing in fields such as Wi-Fi or account credentials.
Part 12 - Managing Books and Files
12.1 Use Manage Books
What you will learn: Perform context-specific file actions.
Before you begin: Focus a disposable book/file.
Exactly how to do it
Press 3.
Listen to available management actions.
Use 4/6 or the announced navigation keys to review them.
Choose an action only after hearing the selected title again.
Press Confirm to proceed or Cancel to leave.
What should happen: The available actions reflect the current bookshelf/content.
If that does not happen: Deleting a book removes that local copy. Re-download may require internet/service access.
Practice: Open Manage Books on a practice file and cancel.
Part 13 - SD Card and Computer File Transfer
13.1 Insert an SD Card
What you will learn: Add removable storage.
Before you begin: Power can be on or off, but handle the card gently.
Exactly how to do it
Locate the silicone-covered SD slot on the top edge.
Open the cover.
Orient the card correctly and insert it until seated.
Wait for Stream detection and spoken feedback.
What should happen: The Stream detects the SD card and its supported bookshelf folders/content.
If that does not happen: Never force the card. If it is not recognized, power-cycle and verify formatting/card health.
Practice: Insert and identify an SD card if available.
13.2 Transfer Files from Windows
What you will learn: Copy supported content using USB-C.
Before you begin: Have a Windows computer and USB cable.
Exactly how to do it
Connect the Stream to the computer using the bottom-center USB-C port.
Wait for Windows to detect it as a portable/MTP device.
Open File Explorer.
Open the Stream's internal memory or SD-card storage.
Copy supported files into appropriate folders/bookshelves.
Use Windows' safe-device practices and disconnect the cable.
Let the Stream rescan content.
What should happen: Transferred books/files appear on the relevant bookshelf.
If that does not happen: If the Stream is not detected, try another USB port/cable and unlock/restart the device if needed.
Practice: Transfer one harmless MP3 or text file.
Supported formats: Current NLS/HumanWare references list formats including DAISY, BRF, DOCX, EPUB, HTML, MP3, FLAC, OGG, WAV, TXT, XML, and others.
Part 14 - Text, EPUB, BRF, Music, Podcasts, and Notes
Text bookshelf: electronic text read through the Stream's text-to-speech voice.
BRF/braille files: handled as text/braille content with the configured braille translation table where applicable.
EPUB/HTML/DOCX: may expose heading navigation when the source file contains structure.
Music bookshelf: audio files and folders; music speed remains normal by default and bass/treble options are available.
Saved Podcasts: downloaded podcast episodes stored for offline playback.
Notes: recordings and note files created/managed on the device.
Accessibility principle: A well-structured source file gives better heading/page navigation than an unstructured text conversion.
Part 15 - Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode
15.1 Turn Wireless On
What you will learn: Disable Airplane Mode so Wi-Fi/Bluetooth can operate.
Before you begin: Wireless use is permitted where you are.
Exactly how to do it
Press and hold the Online key.
Listen for Airplane Mode status.
If it announces Airplane Mode on, press/hold again or use Settings to turn Airplane Mode off.
Open Settings with 7.
Navigate to Wireless and then Wi-Fi.
Confirm Wi-Fi is on.
What should happen: Wireless features become available.
If that does not happen: HumanWare documents Airplane Mode as on by default; when it is on, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are disabled.
Practice: Turn Airplane Mode on and off once.
15.2 Connect to Wi-Fi
What you will learn: Join a wireless network directly on the Stream.
Before you begin: Know the network name and password.
Exactly how to do it
Press 7 for Settings.
Navigate to Wireless > Wi-Fi > New Connection.
Choose Scan for connection.
Use 4/6 to find the network and press Confirm.
Enter the Wi-Fi password with multi-tap text entry.
Use Bookmark to switch lowercase, uppercase, and numeric entry when needed.
Press Confirm.
Check Wi-Fi Status afterward.
What should happen: The Stream connects and announces network status.
If that does not happen: If the password is rejected, check case, punctuation, and text-entry mode. Use Key Describer/User Guide to relearn multi-tap entry if needed.
Practice: Connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network.
Part 16 - Bluetooth
16.1 Pair Bluetooth Headphones or Speaker
What you will learn: Use wireless audio output.
Before you begin: Airplane Mode is off and the Bluetooth device is in pairing mode.
Exactly how to do it
Press 7.
Navigate to Wireless > Bluetooth.
Turn Bluetooth on.
Choose the option to scan/pair a device.
Use 4/6 through discovered device names.
Press Confirm on the intended device.
Wait for connected confirmation.
What should happen: Stream audio routes to the paired Bluetooth device.
If that does not happen: If the device is not found, put it back into pairing mode and move it closer. Airplane Mode must be off.
Practice: Pair and disconnect a noncritical Bluetooth audio device.
Privacy: Bluetooth device names can reveal personal names/model information. Verify the exact device before pairing in public places.
Part 17 - NLS BARD
Eligible U.S. NLS patrons can configure BARD on the Stream 3 and search/download books over Wi-Fi.
17.1 Add an NLS BARD Account
What you will learn: Enable the BARD online bookshelf.
Before you begin: You have active BARD credentials and Wi-Fi is connected.
Exactly how to do it
Press 7 for Settings.
Use navigation to open Online settings.
Open Book Services.
Move to NLS BARD.
Choose Add account and press Confirm.
Enter the BARD email address with multi-tap entry, then Confirm.
Enter the password, using Bookmark to switch case/numeric mode, then Confirm.
Wait for the service-enabled announcement.
What should happen: An NLS BARD bookshelf appears in the online bookcase.
If that does not happen: If validation fails, verify the same credentials on the BARD website and check Wi-Fi. Do not repeatedly guess passwords if the account may lock.
Practice: Add the account only when you are ready to protect the credentials.
17.2 Search and Download a BARD Book
What you will learn: Find BARD content directly from the Stream.
Before you begin: BARD is configured and Wi-Fi works.
Exactly how to do it
Tap Online to enter the online bookcase.
Press 1 until NLS BARD is announced.
Use Go To to reach Search or use 4/6 to the Search option.
Press Confirm.
Use 2/8 through search types and Confirm the desired one.
Enter the search text.
Review results with 4/6.
Press 5 for a short description.
Press Bookmark to add a result to the BARD wish list when available.
Press Confirm to download, or Play/Stop to begin reading the selected result when supported.
What should happen: The book downloads or begins reading according to the selected action.
If that does not happen: If no results appear, broaden the search. If downloading fails, check Wi-Fi and BARD status.
Practice: Search for one known author or title.
NLS authorization: NLS books also require the Stream to be authorized. HumanWare provides online authorization/key-download procedures; see Part 21.
Part 18 - Bookshare, NFB-NEWSLINE, Internet Radio, Podcasts, and TuneIn
Bookshare: configured under Online settings > Book Services using eligible account credentials.
NFB-NEWSLINE: available to eligible U.S. users when configured.
Internet Radio: search and save stations using online services.
Podcasts: search/add feeds and download/manage episodes.
TuneIn: can be used without an account for basic listening; account pairing enables library/favorites features.
Wikipedia/Wiktionary references: available as online reference features in supported configurations.
Availability: Online services can change independently of the Stream firmware. If a service disappears, verify current HumanWare support information before resetting the device.
Part 19 - Recording and Audio Notes
19.1 Make a Recording
What you will learn: Create a spoken note with the built-in microphone.
Before you begin: Use a quiet environment and respect recording consent.
Exactly how to do it
Locate the Record button near the top of the right side.
Press Record to start according to the current recording configuration.
Speak toward the small built-in microphone hole above Go To.
Use the Record control again to stop/save as prompted.
Find the recording in the Notes/recording location.
What should happen: A recording is created in the configured format/location.
If that does not happen: If the recording is silent, check recording source and volume settings.
Practice: Record a ten-second non-sensitive note.
External recording: The bottom-left-side microphone/line-in jack can accept an external source. Settings control preferred source, recording volume, file type, and save location.
Part 20 - Settings and Software Updates
20.1 Navigate Settings
What you will learn: Change one setting at a time and verify the result.
Before you begin: The Stream is on.
Exactly how to do it
Press 7.
Use the announced navigation keys to move among major categories such as General, Navigation/Playback, Wireless, Recording, and Online settings.
Press Confirm to enter a category.
Use 4/6 or 2/8 as announced to review choices.
Press Confirm to accept or Cancel to back out.
What should happen: The chosen setting changes only after confirmation.
If that does not happen: If you become lost, press Cancel repeatedly and reopen Settings.
Practice: Find Language, Sleep configuration, and Wireless without changing them.
20.2 Check for Updates
What you will learn: Install current Stream software when appropriate.
Before you begin: Connect to stable Wi-Fi and preferably AC power.
Exactly how to do it
Press 7.
Navigate to Online settings > Software Update.
Choose Check for updates.
Press Confirm.
Follow spoken prompts if an update is available.
Do not interrupt power during installation.
What should happen: The Stream reports current software or installs an available update.
If that does not happen: If the update fails, restore stable Wi-Fi/power and retry. HumanWare also provides manual SD-card update packages.
Practice: Check for updates without forcing an unnecessary reinstall.
Part 21 - NLS Authorization
21.1 Refresh NLS User Keys over Wi-Fi
What you will learn: Authorize NLS playback when HumanWare/NLS instructs you to do so.
Before you begin: Wi-Fi is connected.
Exactly how to do it
Press 7 until General Settings is reached.
Navigate to Online Settings and press Confirm.
Open Software Update.
Move to Check for updates.
Press Confirm.
Wait for the server check and listen for a user-keys processed message when applicable.
What should happen: The Stream receives available authorization keys.
If that does not happen: If NLS books remain unauthorized, follow HumanWare's current NLS authorization support steps or contact NLS/HumanWare rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings.
Practice: Know where this command is, even if authorization is already working.
Part 22 - Troubleshooting
22.1 No Sound
What you will learn: Check playback and output before resetting.
Before you begin: A book is selected.
Exactly how to do it
Press Play/Stop.
Short-press Power until Volume is selected.
Press the left-side Up control several times.
Unplug headphones if you expect the built-in speaker.
Disconnect Bluetooth if audio may be routed wirelessly.
What should happen: Audio becomes audible through the intended output.
If that does not happen: If not, try another book and headphones, then inspect settings.
Practice: Practice identifying the current audio output.
22.2 Cannot Find a Book
What you will learn: Rebuild your location: bookcase, bookshelf, book.
Before you begin: Content should be present.
Exactly how to do it

Use Go To book-number navigation if you know the relative position.
Check the SD card/computer transfer if local content is missing.
What should happen: You locate the content or identify which storage/service is missing.
If that does not happen: Do not reset the Stream just because you are on the wrong bookshelf.
Practice: Find one local and one online title.
22.3 Wi-Fi Will Not Connect
What you will learn: Check Airplane Mode and credentials.
Before you begin: A known network is available.
Exactly how to do it
Press and hold Online and verify Airplane Mode is off.
Open Wireless > Wi-Fi > Status.
Rescan the network.
Re-enter the password carefully, checking uppercase/lowercase/numeric mode with Bookmark.
Move closer to the router.
What should happen: The Stream connects or gives a specific failure.
If that does not happen: If the network uses a captive portal or unsupported enterprise setup, direct Stream connection may not be possible.
Practice: Reconnect to a trusted network.
22.4 BARD Search or Download Fails
What you will learn: Separate service/account issues from basic Wi-Fi.
Before you begin: BARD is configured.
Exactly how to do it
Verify Wi-Fi Status.
Confirm another online service works if available.
Open NLS BARD bookshelf.
Retry a simple title/author search.
If account validation fails, test the credentials on BARD outside the Stream.
Check current HumanWare/NLS service notices before deleting the account.
What should happen: You identify whether the problem is connectivity, credentials, service availability, or content.
If that does not happen: Avoid removing a working account until simpler checks are completed.
Practice: Practice the diagnostic sequence.
22.5 Device Seems Frozen
What you will learn: Use safe recovery before reset.
Before you begin: The Stream does not respond normally.
Exactly how to do it
Press Play/Stop and Cancel to see whether playback/menu focus is simply paused.
Connect AC power.
Press and hold Power for the documented shutdown/reset behavior.
Restart and check Info for battery/software state.
What should happen: The Stream restarts or returns to normal operation.
If that does not happen: If it remains unresponsive, use HumanWare's current reset/troubleshooting guidance or support rather than forcing ports/cards.
Practice: Know the safe recovery order.
